Two entities are in charge of testing and relaying vehicle safety ratings to the public. The U.S. government is in charge of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while a private non-profit is in charge of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Each entity conducts its own series of tests.

The NHTSA has a rating system based on one through five stars, with five being the best rating. It tests the result of side impacts, head-on collisions at 35 miles per hour and the effects of a rollover. The IIHS rates vehicles through five different tests that include a frontal collision, a test of roof strength and the effects of a crash on drivers' heads and necks. Vehicles are rated from Poor to Good. It's a good idea to consider the findings from both investigations when purchasing a car.

If you're looking for a vehicle that has received high safety ratings, we've got an excellent selection at Lion Country Kia. You're welcome to stop by for a test drive.
